Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, announced that the team from the Faculty of Engineering in Shubra secured first place at the level of Egypt and Africa, and second place globally in the Shell Eco-marathon – Autonomous Programming Competition (APC) 2025, among more than 20 participating teams from various universities worldwide.
The university president congratulated the winning team, which represents a global achievement for the electric car team, Shoubra Racing Team, from the Faculty of Engineering in Shubra.
Prof. El-Gizawy emphasized Benha University's commitment to supporting such student initiatives that reflect a genuine awareness of global trends in artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, and sustainable energy, which align with Egypt's Vision 2030, contributing to the preparation of capable professionals who can innovate and compete on international stages.
Prof. Gamal Abdel Aziz, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering in Shubra, stated that the Shell Eco-marathon is one of the oldest and most prestigious global engineering competitions, having started over 40 years ago. It aims to motivate university students to design and develop highly efficient energy-consuming vehicles. It serves as an annual platform that combines innovation and practical application in the field of sustainable mobility, opening avenues for youth to present future technological solutions.
c Prof. Gamal pointed out that one of the modern tracks within the competition is the Autonomous Programming Competition (APC), which focuses on developing smart systems for autonomous vehicles. In this challenge, teams are required to program a self-driving car capable of navigating within a virtual city and passing through a series of waypoints while adhering to traffic laws, utilizing artificial intelligence and advanced algorithms, all while maintaining the highest possible level of energy efficiency.
Prof. Mohamed Ibrahim, supervisor of the team, added that the Shoubra Racing Team from the Faculty of Engineering in Shubra - Benha University has succeeded in designing an integrated system that combines intelligent control, computer vision, and real-time sensory data processing, enabling it to excel in performance testing and compete at a global level.
This achievement is a true source of pride for the students of the Faculty of Engineering in Shubra - Benha University, confirming their capabilities to engage in complex technological challenges directly related to the future of mobility and smart cities.
